Best open world games list
Here is a list of open world games to grab in 2023. At the time of writing the article most of the publishers have put their games on sales so please do a proper research before buying to ensure its economical enough.
Death Stranding
In a post-apocalyptic United States, players control Sam Porter Bridges, a courier tasked with delivering supplies to isolated colonies and reconnecting them via a wireless communications network. The game explores themes of life, death, and the connection between them. This would be probably one of the few open world games I probably might have played more than once.
Terraria
This is a 2D sandbox game with an emphasis on exploration, building, and combat. Players dig, fight, and explore in a procedurally generated world, encountering various creatures and challenges.
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Players lead the Inquisition to save the world of Thedas from chaos. As the Inquisitor, players make decisions that shape the story and outcome, while battling demonic forces and political intrigue. I am in the process of playing this game at the time of writing the article will publish my review about this and the other open world games soon.
Minecraft
A sandbox game where players explore a blocky, procedurally-generated 3D world with infinite terrain. They may discover and extract raw materials, craft tools, build structures, and earthworks, and depending on the mode, fight computer-controlled foes.
Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain
Set in 1984, the game follows mercenary leader Punished “Venom” Snake as he ventures into Soviet-occupied Afghanistan and the Angola–Zaire border region to exact revenge on the people who destroyed his forces. I have replayed this game 5 times. This is one of my favorite open world games yet.
Fallout 4
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, the player emerges from an underground bunker known as a Vault and explores the world, completes various quests, helps out factions, and acquires experience points to level up their character.
Far Cry 6
Set in the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, players assume the role of a local Yaran named Dani Rojas, attempting to topple the dictatorship of Anton Castillo, who controls the island. This game is like a one time play though game. I really didn’t replay this much.
Dayz Gone
Players control Deacon St. John, a former outlaw-turned-drifter and bounty hunter who prefers life on the road to wilderness encampments. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic Oregon two years after a global pandemic.
Watch Dogs 1
The game is set in a fictionalized version of Chicago and follows hacker Aiden Pearce’s quest for revenge after the killing of his niece. This game had potential and I does have replayability for itself as well. This would be one of my top 5 picks among the open world games.
No Man’s Sky
This game features a procedurally generated open universe with over 18 quintillion planets. Players explore, survive, combat, and trade in an uncharted universe, discovering unique planets and lifeforms. I do like this and is one of the unique among the open world games out there.
Forza Horizon 5
An open-world racing game set in a fictional representation of Mexico. It features a dynamic weather system and a variety of terrains. Its a great game however till date it does have some performance drops however if you are ok with it, go for it.
Dragon’s Dogma
Set in a high fantasy world, players take on the role of the “Arisen,” a character whose heart has been stolen by a dragon. The game involves quests and an innovative “pawn” system.
Assassin’s Creed Unity
Set in Paris during the French Revolution, the player takes on the role of Arno Dorian, who seeks to expose the true powers behind the Revolution.
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Players control Peter Parker/Spider-Man in an open-world New York City, fighting crime and facing off against a series of Spider-Man’s enemies.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Set in the fictional province of Skyrim, the player character is a Dragonborn, destined to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. This the OG pro among the open world games out there. The mods are the best thing to happen to it and please don’t play without installing those. I personally fount the vanilla game stunning however it does make more sense for the eyes to install the mods.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Set in the Viking age, players control Eivor, a Viking raider who becomes embroiled in the conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order. Now people do have a strong opinion about this game however I love it. This is also one of the few open world games which I played more than once.
Elden Ring
An action RPG set in the Lands Between, governed by Queen Marika the Eternal. The player character is a Tarnished, exiled from the Lands Between and summoned back after the shattering of the Elden Ring.

A sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, the game continues the story of Aloy, a young huntress in a world overrun by machines, as she moves west to a far-future America to find a mysterious frontier known as the Forbidden West.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Set at the end of the Zelda timeline, the player controls Link, who awakens from a hundred-year slumber to defeat Calamity Ganon and save the kingdom of Hyrule.

Set in the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, the single-player story follows three criminals and their efforts to commit heists while under pressure from a government agency.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Set in a fictional recreation of the American Old West in 1899, the story centers on outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. Its a prequel to the story of John Marston in Red Dead Redemption.
I played the offline story mode and believe me its worth it. This should be considered the baseline of realism open world games.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Players control Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher, searching for his missing adopted daughter on the run from the Wild Hunt, an otherworldly force determined to capture her.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
Set in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy, players take on the role of Edward Kenway, a pirate and member of the Assassin Order, as he navigates the turbulent waters of the time. This is one of the open world games according to me has replayability.
